PARENTS THESE DAYS
So last night I went to see 300 at IMAX. Awesome movie. Great cinematography, well told story, and even made some people cry. I'm not a big blood and guts guy, and this movie had a lot, but the story overshadowed the gore. I did have a hard time watching some of the sex and violence with the person sitting next to me. Not my girlfriend, but the 4 year old boy sitting next to me! The family one seat over consisted of a couple in their 30's, two boys looking about four and six, and a baby! A little itty bitty baby! Not much more then six months I'm guessing. Surprisingly they didn't fuss at all and sat there without acting like kids can in a theater, probably because they were scared out of their minds. That Dad was also kind enough to point out the important parts, "Watch this, he's gonna get his head cut off!" This means that he has already seen this, and knew how bad it was! What makes a parent think that this will not affect a child for years to come, and I'm sure they will continue to show them this kind of "entertainment" for years to come. With the events in Virginia, it makes me wonder why we allow kids to be exposed to this stuff. Should it really be left up to parents to decided what is best for the kids to see? I would have said something to the guy on the way out, but he was big and scary looking.
So today on the Rise Guys show I heard them promoting the "Huge Take of the Day" with the winner getting free IMAX tickets. So I called in with my story, and they like me were shocked at the parents decision to expose their kids to this movie. So I got tickets to go see another IMAX movie of my choice. I think I'll wait until Happy Feet 2 comes out.
